JUSTICE MINISTRY AND CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
FAITH IN THE PUBLIC SQUARE
For better AND for worse, Christianity has played a key role in American politics. From abolition and child welfare laws, to abortion and the struggle for marriage equality, Christian values have been voiced publicly. From civil rights to the current struggles for the rights of immigrants and people of color, the voices of various sects within Christianity have made their voices heard. At First Church in Jaffrey, we seek to have this public voice of faith reflect Jesus’ command to love the LORD our God and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
CARING FOR CREATION
As we learn more and more about the consequences our choices have on the environment and all of creation, we seek new ways to steward our beautiful but struggling planet. Now, maybe more than any time in our past, we believe that people of faith must act in whatever large or small ways they can.
The preamble to the by-laws of United Church of Christ calls on “each generation to make the scriptures their own.” This can really only be done when we understand the world behind the scriptures as well as the world of the scriptures. What were the authors of scripture responding to historically and in their own time, and how do the questions they were struggling with help us as we wrestle with our own? Open to all, the Bible Study group meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 10:00am. Come enjoy coffee, company and conversation!
