LENTEN WORSHIP SERVICES
Our theme this year is Living In These Anxious Times:Where is your balm?
We will be working through the life and passion of Jesus exploring anxiety and how we find the grounding, comfort and support to move toward wholeness despite the anxieties that we feels in our lives and the world. Where did Jesus find balm amidst his time of trouble? What is our balm?
Our musical theme for Lent is There is a balm in Gilead.
Christ’s Passion Week begins at First Church in Jaffrey with the Palm Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. on March 25. Rev. Shayna Appel will lead the congregation as it processes from the Parish House into the 1833 church sanctuary, setting the stage for Maundy Thursday and Easter.
Maundy Thursday will be combined service with United Church of Jaffrey, but will be held at First Church this year. We will, once again, host a Pot Luck Passover Seder finishing with a Tenebrae service. Passover begins on Maundy Thursday this year so it is fitting that we would celebrate these traditions together. The Pot Luck is vegetarian and we ask that only unleavened bread be shared.
On Easter Sunday, April 1 at 10:30am, Bach choral works will welcome visitors and members at the red brick church as Rev. Robin Lunn concludes the Lenten theme of “Living in These Anxious Times.” Special instrumental and choral music with Monadnock area musicians, directed by Minister of Music Gene Faxon, will be interspersed with readings proclaiming the Resurrection of Christ.
