First Church in Jaffrey invites

all to Holy Week services

First Church in Jaffrey, Congregational/United Church of Christ, invites all to celebrate services during Holy Week in the 1831 red brick church on the common next to the Meetinghouse in Jaffrey Center, at the junction of Rte. 124, Laban Ainsworth Way and Gilmore Pond Road.

 

First Church will begin Holy Week with a Palm Sunday worship service on April 1 at 10:30 a.m.  Special music is planned and the Gospel passages of the entrance of Jesus and his disciples into Jerusalem will be read and palm fronds distributed.  The Rev. Robert R. Kyte will preach.

 

A Maundy Thursday Union Service with United Church of Jaffrey/UCC will be held at United Church, 54 Main Street, Jaffrey on Thursday April 5 at 7 p.m.

 

On Good Friday, April 6, a worship service of prayers, Gospel readings and silent meditation will be held at 12 noon at First Church.

 

Two Handel Oratorios at Easter

On Easter Sunday, April 8, the Celebration of the Resurrection service will be at 10:30 a.m. 

The Easter music will feature music of George Frederic Handel with choruses and solos from the oratorios "Judas Maccabaeus" and "Messiah."

The First Church choir will be joined by some members of Monadnock Chorus, as well as a string quartet of Ian MacKay, violin; Gwyn Welch, violin; Aurora Crane-Pearson, viola; and Jacob MacKay, cello. Eve Kodiak will play piano with the string ensemble. Debbie Busick and Gene Faxon, the Minister of Music, who will conduct the music, will sing solos.

The service will include Gospel readings of the resurrection. The Rev. Mr. Kyte’s weekly sermons are summarized in one-page sermons, which are available each Sunday in the church foyer and, later in the week, on the website
